at this point? >> and charles, when mitt romney is not telling the truth about chrysler going to china, there's a lot to talk about here. so, there's a lot that's going on in in campaign that's up for debate and everyone can say where the line is. i think a lot of lines have changed and through every campaign cycle, that's a disappointment. but when you look at young kids and voters who may be getting registered this week, today, they look at youtube, they watch it, and they that they need to get out and vote when they see it. >> mary anne, it's andrea. i get that this is a turnout game for the obama administration because they're losing independents in some polls double digits and can't run on their record or the economy, but don't you think that there's a chance that it can back fire. these kids also have parents, they have grandparents, and i mean, did you ever wish that maybe the campaign would have chose a different message instead of abortion, rape and the other things? >> well, as you know, andrea, every time that was in response to what was said by largely middle aged male republicans
with the automotive company a tax-free zone in china which means they can -- chrysler could set up shop. basically be part of that tax-free area, and so that third advantage is a big tax advantage. neil: but think about what your saying. all makes perfect business sense, but the president in all of these debates with mitt romney has been saying you want to ship these jobs of the china. here we have bailed out of th company's who we were told, you get this money, save american jobs. we literally are, after all of that, shipping those jobs to china. maybe the right and apparent big macro reasons, but to belittle mitt romney and to say that that is what you're all about, this isn't about casting aspersions on democrats or republicans. if it was a potential i think people would have said, no wway in hell. that's what's happening. >> it's a classic example. with all due respect, president obamai obviously doesn't understand how our multinational company works. there is a board of directors, executives. they are responsible to shareholders to make wise decisions on how to run the operatiin. in fact, if

that the chrysler will move jeep jobs to china. obama camp insisting that's not true. the problem is that you go back to the president's speech in ho had yesterday, he was not talking about the jeep controversy when he said voting is the best revenge. so that explanation doesn't seem topped. i think the bottom line is the president wants to shift the focus here, doesn't want to talk about things like that. what he wants to talk about is grabbing the mantra of change back from mitt romney. he's talk being how mitt romney is saying, he's the candidate of change. president obama is no longer the challenger. he's trying to take that mantle back by saying the policies that mitt romney is selling on the stump are really just failed policies of the past. not sort of any change moving forward. that's his case. the second thing he has, the obama camp is confident about is the ground game. they believe that if they can wrap up some of these midwestern battle grounds like iowa, wisconsin and ohio, it will be very hard for mitt romney to get to 270 electoral votes he needs to take this away from the preside
jobs, gm is back, chrysler is the fastest-growing auto maker in the nation, what is their response? it is outrageous, their response. in the last hours of this campaign, they have become truly desperate. i came from ohio -- they are running an ad in ohio and the following -- this is the god's truth. the ad they are running says the following -- it says that barack obama bankrupting the automobile industry so that it could be sold to the italians -- i do not know they have against the italians -- sold to the italians so they could offshore to china. that is what they are saying -- i am not making this up. ladies and gentlemen, here is the cynical part. just imagine, your from the upper midwest, my state is delaware, which was one of the biggest automobile producing states in the country. after all those guys and families have been through, hard-working folks working their whole lives, through no fault of their own because of the policies of the last administration in the last year before got elected, 400,000 automobile jobs lost. here is what is more important -- 400,000 people drop
jeeps to the united states. so jeep chrysler came out, fiat, the company, they said, absolutely wrong. general motors, have you ever heard of a company which has got a deal with whoever the next president is, come out and scold the presidential candidate the way there is. everybody we talked to says mitt romney is flat out wrong on this. and, again, we're puzzled that he would do that. he's competitive in ohio. this is a dead heat. statistically a dead heat between romney and obama. very puzzling to hear how this is going over here. >> and just to add to that, the swing voters we're talking to here, there is a sense that this issue resonated. the front pages, the local newspaper here is about romney on the auto industry. >> people are mad. >> and it is registering as an unforced error. people take it very personally here, their jobs, their local economy is connected to the auto bailout and stimulus package according to the mayor here. >> yeah. and, john, listen, the president has a tough sell. it may be an easier sell for mitt romney and the reason i say that is because when everyone
if romney loses ohio it's because of that chrysler ad. you see some pent up anger about that. >> a lot of reaction. how about you susan. >> heroes of the week were the first responders because they are still out there. they are working on stuff even as their own homes are under water or on fire. doing an incredible job. for the worst week all those republicans who criticized chris christie for standing with the president of the united states, taking care of business, that's not what it's about and you are a loser if you do that. >> okay. >> there you go. >> we need make you and honorary democrat. keep it up. >> in a moment krcraig melvin joins us from washington. stay with us here at democracy plaza. but i still have a runny nose.
